Circular chart recorders are basically data recorders that achieve the data points on a chart that is round in shape over a definite period of time. The data is recorded in a circular chart and hence the name of the recorder was so given. But at the time of choosing a circular chart recorder, you need to be very careful and make it a point that you buy from a trusted and reputed chart recorder manufacturer so as to get the premium quality product. In addition to this, it is also of immense importance to know about the working principle of a circular chart recorder.
How the Recorder Works
As indicated by the name involves the recording of data on a chart that is flat as well as circular. In a single pen circular chart recorder, there is one pen that records the data and in the case of a dual pen recorder, two pens do the job of recording the data.
Components of the Recorder
The circular chart recorder involves the following.
- Measuring element
- Operating mechanism
- Chart Drive
- Recording device
All these components are mounted on a single panel usually and then the chart for the purpose of recording the data is mounted on a support that is flat in nature. The chart is kept in position with the help of spring clips to make sure that it does not curl at the time of working. The element to be measured could be a helical pressure tube or simply some other element. The operating mechanism involves a total of three levers among which two of them link the other to help in convey motion from the measuring element used in the recorder onto the recording device.
- Proper light
- Uniform pressure
- The chart surface should be flat as well as smooth for seamless data recording
- The arm of the pen should be fitted with a hundred percent accuracy and properly locked as well
- Some timing device should be used for the purpose of driving the chart at a uniform rate
Circular Chart Drive
The chart drive assembly consists of a chart support spindle in the center along with a drive motor. The chart is then centered and simply locked around the spindle in the center. The speed of the chart varies as per the requirements and the different drives used for the circular charts are as listed below.
- Electric
- Pneumatic
- Dual powered drives or duplex
- Mechanical
- Devices that are controlled externally
So, now it can be clearly understood how the circular chart recorder works for the purpose of recording data.
