Understanding Of A Temperature Data Logger

Understanding Of A Temperature Data Logger-G-Tek

What is a Temperature Data logger?

There are a number of industries where it becomes extremely important to know about the exact temperature that a product has been exposed to and for the exact duration of time of exposure. Whether in case of sterilization of surgical instruments or other medical devices, in an autoclave, or simply heating of the food items before canning; all of the cases require clear evidence of the exposed temperature as well as the time duration of exposure. This is exactly the situation where the need for a temperature data logger arises.

The temperature data logger is a device that helps in the monitoring of temperature appropriately and accurately as per the requirements. It is basically a form of data logger which is optimized and configured for temperature probes or the sensors. It is actually an electronic device that is able to store a number of data recordings and is usually powered by a battery. There are different types of temperature data logger which accepts more than one sensor input, sampling and storing the data at a frequency that is predetermined. In recent times, it is the digital data logger has become very popular. This is because of its convenience to use.

Types of data loggers based on your product range

A temperature data logger has two major components in it.

  1. Temperature sensor or sensors
  2. Recording systems

These sensors can be integrated directly with the recording system or can also be placed at a distance. Now the types of temperature data loggers are classified according to the channels of input of the loggers.

  • Single Channel Temperature Data Logger – In this type of logger, there is a single channel of input.
  • Multiple Channel Temperature Data Logger – In this type of logger, there are multiple channels of input. Among them, the 8-channel temperature data logger is what is most popular.

When do you install a Multi-channel temperature data logger?

A multichannel data logger is particularly installed at the time when there are a number of different types of inputs in the system where the temperature is to be measured. The different types of inputs include thermocouples, transistors, RTDs, and process current as well as voltage. Therefore, in the case of multiple channels of inputs, the multichannel temperature data logger is the most appropriate one to be installed.

Applications

The temperature data loggers find a wide range of applications which are as enumerated below.

Cold Chain

There are a number of foods and pharmaceuticals which are required to be shipped under extremely careful as well as controlled conditions for the prevention of spoilage. This is where a temperature data logger helps in providing a detailed recording of the temperature conditions experienced. This ensures the integrity of the products and provides clear evidence in case of any claims of mishandling.

Temperature and humidity logging

In the case of facility management, particularly where precise measurement or highly sensitive temperature processing is conducted, a detailed record of variation of temperature as well as humidity plays a vital role in the identification of inefficiencies. The same is applicable in the case of plant and animal propagation too. In this situation, a proper combination of temperature and humidity data loggers provides a clear record of conditions experienced. Efficient and effective monitoring is of great help for careful treatment.

Apart from this, there are a number of fields where the need for temperature data loggers regularly arises and are put to use accordingly.
